A Makhanda (Grahamstown) native who left the Eastern Cape for the ‘City of Gold’ (JHB) as a kid, L Tip had a coming of age characterised by music and hustling. From a young age, L Tip has shared stages with SA Hip Hop legends such as DJ Ready D, Proverb, Zubz, Stogie T, Mawe2, Golden Shovel, Driemanskap, Hymphatic Thabz, The Archetypes, Jah Seed and Admiral, Ms Supa, DJ Kenzhero… to name a few.
L Tip is widely known for his top tier lyricism which earned him appearances on MTV Base SA Hip Hop Awards Cyphers, cameos on SA Hip Hop documentaries such as The Hip Hop Effect and his national chart topping song “Perfect Timing” featuring Lex LaFoy.
He has worked with, and produced records for award winning artists H20, Mpumi Dhlamini, Yung Verbal, Youngsta CPT, Zahara (unreleased)… as well as soul artists Nothende, Eves Manxeba, Pilani Bubu and DJ Lyquid… and singer/actresses Zimkitha and Mpule Mathlola… and many more.
L Tip has recently teamed up with Shaldon Kopman (Founder of Naked Ape Fashion), J. Smallz (SAMA Award nominated engineer) and Joniq (internationally experienced artist/producer). Togther, these men produced and curated revolutionary runway music for african designers at fashion shows all across the world, for every season since October 2021. These platforms include SA, Algiers, Egypt, Portugal, New York and Paris Fashion Weeks. Creating an authentic, cinematic brand of runway music for renowned designers and fashion labels across Africa and the diaspora, such as: Thebe Magugu (South Africa), Christie Brown (Ghana), Orange Culture (Nigeria), Emmy Kasbit (Nigeria), David Tlale (South Africa), Lagos Space Programme (Nigeria) and many more.
Tip has also featured on a film score for Quizzical production: The Lucky Specials.
L Tip’s overall passion for music knows no genre boundaries. This has allowed him to effortlessly re-invent himself in the spectrum and his values of authenticity remain consistent in everything he creates.
